It's nice to find jeans that fit you exactly, but it's not so nice if your jeans unexpectedly shrink in the dryer. It is quite normal for jeans to shrink and often this can be reversed. The most important thing you can do is make sure you wash and dry the jeans according to the washing instructions. Then spray the jeans with water, soak them in baby shampoo, or wear them in a tub of warm water to shrink them so they fit you perfectly again.

To step

Method 1 of 3: Spray with lukewarm water

  1. Fill an atomizer with lukewarm water. Make sure the atomizer is clean and does not contain chemical residues from products that have previously been in the atomizer. Only fill the atomizer with lukewarm water. If you don't have a spray bottle, you can also pour small amounts of water on your jeans while stretching them.
  2. Put the jeans on the floor. Make sure the jeans are completely flat on the floor. Smooth the fabric with your hands. Spread the legs of the jeans so that you can easily treat part of the pants at a time.
  3. Pull the jeans while you inject them. Spray the water on all parts that need to be stretched. When the fabric is quite damp, pull the affected areas with your hands to stretch them. Continue this until you have stretched all the tight areas of the jeans.
  4. Let the jeans air dry. You can let the jeans dry flat if you don't want to move them. You can also hang it to dry. Adjust your jeans when they are dry to make sure they have stretched enough. If the pants are still too tight, repeat the process or try a different method.

Method 2 of 3: Soak in baby shampoo

  1. Put baby shampoo in a bucket of water. It doesn't matter what kind of baby shampoo you use. Put a capful of shampoo in a bucket of lukewarm water. Quickly run your hands through the water to thoroughly mix the baby shampoo with the water.
  2. Massage the mixture into the jeans with your hands. Put the jeans in the water and let them soak for a few minutes. Then use your hands to thoroughly massage the baby shampoo and water mixture into the jeans. Doing this will relax the fibers of your jeans.
  3. Squeeze the excess water from the fabric. When you have massaged the baby shampoo into your jeans, squeeze the excess water from the fabric with your hands. Gently squeeze and wring and do not rinse the jeans.
  4. Roll the jeans up in a clean towel. Use a clean, dry towel that has already been washed once so that the fibers of the towel do not stick to the jeans. Place the wet jeans on top of the towel. Roll up the towel with the jeans in it. Gently push the towel so that it absorbs the excess moisture from the jeans.
  5. Pull the jeans while they dry. Get a second clean and dry towel. Place the jeans on the towel. The pants should still be damp now. Gently pull on the jeans to stretch them. Treat all areas of the jeans until you have stretched the entire garment.
  6. Let the jeans air dry. Leave the jeans on the same towel you stretched them on. Leave the jeans on the towel until completely dry. Check your jeans and put them on to see if they are stretched enough.
    • You can put a fan in front of the towel to make the jeans dry faster.

Method 3 of 3: Sit in a bath

  1. Put on the jeans. This method only works if the jeans have not shrunk so much that you can no longer put them on. If it still fits you, put it on, but let go of the knot. It's okay if you can't pull the jeans up as far as normal.
  2. Fill a bathtub with warm water. The water should be warm rather than hot. The water relaxes the fabric and thread. Put enough water in the bathtub so that your jeans are completely submerged.
  3. Sit in the bathtub with the jeans on. Sit in the bathtub for half an hour to an hour, or sit until the water turns cold. You can either stay put or gently pull the fabric with your hands during the soaking process.
  4. Hang the jeans to dry. After soaking, step out of the bathtub and blot up the excess water with a towel. Then take off your jeans and hang them in the air to dry. Adjust it again when it is dry to make sure it fits you properly.

Tips

  • You can also wet the jeans and wear them for about an hour to stretch them.
  • Buy your jeans one size too big if they are made of fabric that shrinks quickly.

Warnings

  • Always check the care label in your jeans to find out how to wash and dry them. This is the best way to keep your jeans from shrinking too much.
