This article teaches you how to reset a Samsung TV to factory settings.
To step
Method 1 of 3: Smart TVs from 2014 to 2018
- Press on the button Menu on the remote control. This will open the main menu of your TV.
- This method works for all smart TVs from 2014 H series to 2018 NU series.
- Select Support and press ↵ Enter. You will now see options on the right side of the screen.
- ↵ Enter can also be on your remote as OK / Select.
- Select Self-diagnosis and press ↵ Enter. The self-diagnosis menu will now appear.
- Select Reset and press ↵ Enter. You will now see a screen with a pin code as security.
- If this option is gray, go to the method "With the service menu".
- Enter the PIN code. If you've never changed this code, it's default 0000. You will now open the reset window.
- If you changed the PIN and can't remember what it is, please contact Samsung Customer Service.
- Select Yes and press ↵ Enter. You now reset all settings of your TV to the factory settings. This may take a few minutes, and your TV may reboot a few times during the process.
Method 2 of 3: Older smart TVs
- Hold the button EXIT For 12 seconds. Do this while your TV is on. The standby light is on while you are pressing it.
- This method works for all smart TVs from 2013 and older.
- Release the button after 12 seconds. You will now get the factory reset screen.
- Select OK. The TV will now be reset to factory settings. After the reset, the TV switches off.
- Turn the TV back on. When you turn on the TV, you will be guided through the setup process again as if you just bought your TV.
Method 3 of 3: With the service menu
- Put the TV in standby. You can use this method for any Samsung TV model, but use it as a last resort. You put the TV in standby by switching it off with the remote control.
- You can tell the TV is in standby if the red sensor light is on while the screen is off.
- Press Mute182on off on the remote control. Press these buttons in quick succession. After a few seconds, a menu should open.
- If no menu opens after 10-15 seconds, try one of the following combinations:

- Mute182on off
- Display / Info≣ MenuMuteon off
- Display / InfoP.STDMuteon off
- P.STDHelpSleepon off
- P.STD≣ MenuSleepon off
- SleepP.STDMuteon off
- If no menu opens after 10-15 seconds, try one of the following combinations:
- Select Reset and press ↵ Enter. Navigate to the reset option using the arrows (or channel buttons) on your remote. The TV will now turn off and reset.
- ↵ Enter can also be on your remote as OK / Select.
- The "Reset" option may be hidden in another menu called "Options".
- Turn the TV back on. When you switch on the TV, it is at the factory settings.
